Enabling pre-sale phone enquiries
What you need to know:
- In response to your feedback, we’ve started a test that allows you to list a customer service phone number for pre-sale questions from your buyers.
Last year, we enabled you to share a customer service phone number with your buyers for aftersale support. Since then, we’ve been listening to feedback that the option to share a phone number before a transaction is important for making a sale.
As of July 2018, we’ve started a test where you can now share a customer service phone number that buyers can use to contact you before they make a purchase. This is completely optional and opting in is easy.
We’ll only share your phone number if you opt in via the Manage communications with buyers section in your Account settings. Once opted in, buyers will see the number after clicking “Ask a question”.
Please note: We’re currently working on implementation in the mobile app which we plan to launch soon. When we activate the customer support feature on the mobile app, buyers will be able to see your phone number in the Seller Profile on Android devices. For iOS, your phone number will be visible in the Contact Seller area.
Reminder about selling off-eBay
As per our Offers to buy or sell outside eBay policy, we don't allow our members to use eBay to contact each other to make offers to buy or sell items outside of eBay.
If you receive an offer to buy or sell outside of eBay, please report it.
Consider whether adding a customer service number is useful for growing your business. You’ll need to ensure that you can maintain responsiveness at the same level you always have.
If it is, we strongly recommend you opt in via Manage communications with buyers in your Account settings.
As the test continues, we may change the feature based on how you use it.
We’re always listening to you. By giving you more flexibility in the ways you can speak to your customers, our goal is to help you grow your business.
